Brad became the pastor of Southview in January of 2019 after pastoring churches in North and South Carolina. He received his bachelor’s degree from UNC-Wilmington and a master’s degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Brad’s wife, Marie, is a gifted writer and teacher. They have four children. Mabrie, Jude, Haddon, and Charlotte “Lottie”.
Brad enjoys running, reading, and Clemson Tiger football but his favorite hobby is just spending time with his family.
Adult Discipleship Pastor
Steve began serving at Southview in the summer of 2013 bringing over 20 years of experience in teaching and counseling in the church. Steve's focus and passion is to see believers treasure the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ and His gospel above all else.
Steve has a bachelor’s degree in psychology/counseling from Southwestern Assembly of God University and a master’s degree in biblical counseling from Clark Summit University. Steve enjoys spending time with his wife Sharlee, reading the Bible & books on Christian discipleship & theology, and enjoying nature.
Ryan became the student pastor of Southview in September of 2019 after serving at churches in North Carolina and Ohio. He received his bachelor's degree from the College at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary as well as his master's degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has served in student ministry for 10 years and has a passion to see students live their lives for Christ today.
Ryan's wife, Emily, loves to sing and bake. They have three children, Canaan, Shepherd, and Delaney whose smiles and laughs brighten even the worst of days.
Kelly and her family came to Southview in 2008 and within a few weeks knew that this was where God meant for them to be. Never did she think that she would be called to the nursery ministry. Over the years, Kelly has been blessed by the children and their families that have come through the nursery classes. She hopes that, in some small way, she has been able to be a reflection of God's amazing love for each of them.
Kelly is married to Rob and their busy crew includes Jake, Will, Gracie, Sam, and Charlie. When she is not homeschooling their kids, Kelly loves to read, run, travel, and hang out with friends and family.
Director of Children's Ministries
Emilie and her husband began attending Southview in 2004 and she became the Director of Children’s Ministries in 2023. She has previously served at Southview as Sunday School Administrator, VBS Director, and in the nursery.
She received her bachelors degree from NC State University and previously worked as a middle/high school science teacher and in a quality control laboratory. She has been a homeschooling mom since 2012. Her husband, Jason, is an RN at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. They have 3 children - Madison, Chase, and Reagan.
Emilie and her family enjoy traveling in their camper with their 3 labradoodles and if she has spare time, she enjoys reading, crafting, and baking.
BETTY JO MERRITT
Betty Jo began her journey at Southview in November 2015. Betty Jo brings with her years of customer service and her true love of working with the public. Betty Jo and her husband Jeffery live in the Gray’s Creek area and have one daughter, Emily. Betty Jo loves the beach and fishing, and tries to spend as much time as she can with her family in Virginia.
Karen joined the Southview staff in July 2021. She and her family have been members of Southview Baptist Church since 2008. Karen serves as a member of the Praise Team and she and her husband, Sam, lead The Rock Journey Group on Wednesday evenings. Karen and Sam have 4 children, Jacob, Ashley, Emily and Dylan; and they also have 5 grandchildren. Karen enjoys music, reading, hiking, and being outdoors.
Sid joined the Southview staff in April 2022. He and his family have been members of Southview Baptist Church since May 2020. Sid has been active in the church since 2013, however, serving with the men's ministry, the parking team, and as a Journey Group leader. His wife, Barbara, has served as a volunteer in our Children's Ministry. His son, Kyle, is working toward a degree in physical therapy.
Jessica Barefoot has a been a member of Southview Baptist's family since 2003. She also serves as Director of Fine Arts and teaches music and band at Freedom Christian Academy, where she also works with the sound, projection, and lighting tech. In her years using audio/visual tech in the various schools she's worked at, she's developed a great interest and enjoyment in both the musician and tech sides of music and worship. She has been a part of Southview's music ministry since 2004 and part of the tech team since 2018.
She loves spending time with her stepson and her exchange student "bonus son", as they begin their post-college years. She also loves spending time with her many nieces and nephews in Waynesville and San Antonio.
