Mission Statement
Corporate Worship services at Southview Baptist Church are a coming together of the saints to be unified in song, and worship God in Spirit and in Truth (John 4:24). This verbal worship is merely an articulation of the worship they have already demonstrated in their lives throughout the week (Romans 12:1-2).
Worship Roles
- Musicians: Commit to proficiency at their craft. “Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings” (Psalm 33:3). It goes without saying that worship is not a show (See the heart of worship section) But a musician must not be chastised for playing skillfully provided the song was served well and God was glorified.
- Vocalists: Sing to God. “Sing to God, sing praises to his name” (Psalm 68:4). The vocalists are to lead by example. Even if no one else joins in (because they do not know the song or they do not feel like singing etc.) the worshippers are committed to worshipping. “About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them” (Acts 16:25).
- A/V Booth Volunteers: Make an effort to be trained and proficient in as many stations as possible. Facilitate the corporate worship at Southview by ensuring the lights, audio mix, broadcasts, and lyric feeds run as smoothly as possible and create minimal distraction. These functions are themselves an act of worship and as such are of great value. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23).
- Congregation: Come ready to lay aside every encumbrance and fix their eyes on Jesus. Respond to the leadership of the musicians, vocalists and A/V team by entering into a time of genuine worship of the King of Kings.
- Worship Leader: Spend dedicated time with the Lord seeking guidance on the worship of the church. Serve the vocalists, musicians and A/V volunteers by ensuring they are not burnt out, they are encouraged by the Word of God weekly, they are given space to use their gifts to edify the Body of Christ, praying and interceding for volunteers weekly, and ensuring their voices are heard and their thoughts valued. The worship leader plans and strategizes how a worship service will go to ensure that the mission statement and heart of worship are executed to the letter via song selection, key selection, transitions, and points where prayer should be interjected. The Worship Service should compliment the sermon and thus present a singular holistic gathering leading to the Body building itself up in love under the headship of Christ.
“Chenaniah, leader of the Levites in music, should direct the music, for he understood it” (1 Chronicles 15:22).

Song Selection
Here at Southview we prioritize scripture-based worship. What that means is that from the moment you enter the service, to the moment you leave you are being ministered to. Worship shouldn't be separate from the message, instead it should be the congregations response to the truths of the respective sermon. With that being said, here at Southview we play a wide variety of songs on a Sunday morning. Because the focus of the songs played are the truths behind them, that allows for a broad blend of classic hymnals and modern contemporary worship. Service InformationIf you're interested in using your talents to serve the worship ministry, view the information below or fill out a form. Upon completing a form you'll complete a physical application, and meet with either the Musician Lead, or AV Lead.
- Musicians: We are currently seeking artists who play “primary” instruments (instruments that are part of the regular Sunday Service band) as well as “secondary” ones (used on special occasions). - Singers: We are currently seeking male vocalists for our praise team and special events. - Audio Technicians: We are currently seeking men and women who are interested in learning the art of audio mixing and recording. - Visuals Technicians: We are currently seeking men and women who are interested in being a part of our Visuals team. - Lighting Technicians: We are currently seeking men and women who are interested in being a part of our Lighting team. - Performance Arts: Whether your talent lies in dance, drama or some other area (such as signing, painting, etc.), we encourage you to be a part of this exciting ministry. Service in this ministry is on an as-needed basis. |
